I was working at a guest ranch in Red River the Summer of 1976. Chris Dietz and Daniel Dodson drove up from Austin so we could go backpacking. We started up Goose Creak Trail intending to go to Wheeler Peak, down to Horseshoe Lake and back on the East Fork. We had 3 days. We pushed a little too hard on day two and ended up pitching a tent on Mt. Walter at 13,141 ft. to avoid torrential wind, rain, and hail in the middle of the afternoon. The next day we passed by Horseshoe and Lost Lakes before ending at the East Fork Trail head. It was an adventure, indeed. I packed a very small Minox 35mm camera in my pocket.
