Christmas & the Civil War

In July, 2006 production started on a 10-day shoot for Tapestry International’s Christmas and the Civil War. The documentary explores the lives of several historical characters on both sides of the conflict and how Christmas during the Civil War shaped their celebrations and revised our Holiday traditions. Shooting took place on the grounds of Old Bedford Village and a few other locations around Bedford, Pennsylvania.

These photographs are my gift to the crew of this production for allowing me to be part of an extraordinary and delightful experience. With the exception of the first two photos on Day 6 (winter shots), all of these images were shot by Peter Ellzey. Some days will have more photos than others as I was trying to shoot around my primary duties as camera production assistant. If I thought the story in the photo was more important than the quality, I erred on the side of inclusion. I hope you find these pages worthy of a smile or two.

A special thank you to Dyanna Taylor and Paul Marbury for the privilege of assisting and witnessing first-hand the unspoken communication that comes from working with someone for 28 years.
